For in-person payments made with cash or money orders, landlords must provide tenants with a contemporaneous receipt indicating the amount paid and the date of payment. For payments not made in person with cash or money orders, landlords are obligated to provide a receipt upon the tenant's request within seven days, unless an existing procedure already provides the tenant with a record of the payment. Receipts can be delivered electronically unless the tenant requests a paper copy.
