HB20 1410 - COVID-19-related Housing Assistance

    • The act appropriates $350,000 to the Eviction Legal Defense Fund to offer legal assistance to individuals at risk of eviction.

    • It transfers $19,650,000 to the Housing Development Grant Fund, administered by the Division of Housing, to provide rental and mortgage assistance.

    • Rental assistance prioritizes:

      • Homeless families with children enrolled in school.

      • Medicaid clients in nursing homes who can transition to in-home services.

      • Survivors of domestic violence.

      • Low-income households earning at or below 100% of the area median income.

    • Mortgage assistance focuses on households with incomes at or below 100% of the area median income.

  • This legislation aims to mitigate housing instability exacerbated by the pandemic by providing targeted financial and legal support to vulnerable populations.
