HB24-1315 - Study on Remediation of Property Damaged by Fire

Key points:

  • Study on Remediation Practices: The Division of Insurance is tasked with conducting or commissioning a study to evaluate existing methods for inspecting, testing, and remediating homes damaged by smoke, soot, ash, and other fire-related contaminants. 

  • Development of Uniform Standards: Based on the study's findings, the Division is to recommend uniform standards for the inspection, testing, and remediation of fire-damaged residential properties, ensuring homes are restored to safe and habitable conditions. 

  • Reporting Requirements: A report detailing the study's findings and recommendations must be submitted to designated legislative committees by January 1, 2026.

Appropriation of Funds: For the 2024-25 fiscal year, $219,909 has been allocated to the Department of Regulatory Agencies to support the Division of Insurance in conducting this study.
